Richard Williams included a very interesting list of possible 'Salt of Staffordshire, Shropshire, etc' on Genealogy.com some time ago. It appears to include Henry Salt's gt.gt.grandfather Thomas Salt.

The Shropshire Archive holds a 'Salt Collection', although not mentioning Henry Salt it gives a brief outline of the Salt's of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

We found this excellent photograph of St John in the Wilderness in India. Henry Salt was christened in the church in 1851, this photo was taken in around 1860.
